Hello friend! Welcome to Rev Nev!
My name is Eric Nevins. I’d like to share with you a little of who I am and why this blog exists.
I grew up in a Christian family. We were one of those families that showed up three times a week to church. Somewhere in my teens I began to wonder why I could read the Bible and see amazing transformation in people and yet saw so little around me.
That simple inquiry sparked in me a desire to find out how people grow in Christ. It led me to pursue and obtain both a B.A. in Biblical Studies from Trinity International University and an M.Div. at Denver Seminary. During both programs I focused on discipleship and spiritual growth.
In time I understood Christian faith as a process of learning to see the world the way God sees it. Specifically, I think of this process in four categories:
- God – A.W. Tozer said that what you think about God is the most important thing about you. He was right. That’s exactly why God let us in on His personality, character, and being through Scripture: so we would know Him. Everything else you believe is based on what you think of God.
- Community – Christian community is not always understood or done well. But if you broaden your understanding of community then possibilities open up for deep and meaningful relationships, mentorships, and help on the journey.
- Perseverance – The point of Christian faith is perseverance not perfection. Sin management is for the self-righteous. Loving God and trusting Him even in the worst of times is what people of deep faith do.
- Reward – There is much more to eternity than harps, clouds, and angels. Eternity starts now and extends forever which is a perspective you do not hear every day.
What does all this have to do with you?
If you can know God more personally and deeply, understand your place in His story then you will persevere in faith no matter what life throws at you. That is the ultimate reward God has promised you and I if we are in Christ. I write on these topics with the hope of encouraging you to grow deeper, love God more, and live a better faith.
