About

The first thing everyone asks me is why “Rev Nev?” To answer the question allow me to tell you a little bit about myself. I am Eric Nevins. If you could boil me down to two topics (as if!) you would have a strange concoction of politics and religion at the bottom of your stew pot.

Politics: I will never forget the day I got hooked on politics. It was the day after the election in 1992. Bill Clinton had won his first term. For some reason we did not have school and I was out with Mom who loves Rush Limbaugh. We listened to Rush all afternoon. It was the first time I remember hearing someone say nationally what I was already thinking. I was hooked.

Religion: I was raised in a Christian family. I developed a Christian faith of my own as I grew up. As high school drew to a close I became convinced God was calling me to ministry. I earned a B.A. from Trinity International University in Biblical Studies in 2000. In 2009, after a long and arduous road I received a Master of Divinity from Denver Seminary with an emphasis in Christian formation.

That’s right. The two things one should never discuss in polite company are my two favorite subjects. Don’t invite me to your party unless you are prepared for the possibility of a political conversation which is only rarely accompanied by rabid name calling and fist fights. Someone I met at the last such party responded to my joke with an astute point. “Aren’t politics and religion the only two things that matter anyway,” she asked. Indeed they are.

So why “Rev Nev?” Throughout my seminary career I nursed a corporate career as well. My co-workers know my ambition to become a pastor and often call me some variant of “Pastor Nevins,” “Reverend,” etc. One day a coworker sent a Facebook message that said, “I was on my way home and saw a license plate that said ‘Rev Nev’ and totally thought of you.” I knew I had the perfect name for my website.

Disclaimer: I am not -yet- a credentialed minister. I am not a “reverend” of any kind. The title is merely affectionate and rather humorous. I cannot marry or bury you but I am working toward that goal. One day, with God’s grace, I will be really Rev Nev.
