The "Gang of 14" was a bipartisan group of Senators, 7 Democrats and 7 Republicans. It prevented the 60 votes necessary for a filibuster along party lines by providing enough votes for cloture. Today, the 4 conservatives (McCain, Collins, Graham, and Snowe) wouldn't be enough. On top of that, the Gang of 14 did more than prevent filibusters; it prevented Republicans from forcing new rules in order to force Judicial nominees into office. If it hadn't been for the 7 Democrats willing to compromise, the Republicans would have attempted roughly the same thing the Democrats are trying now with Reconciliation. Where are the Republicans today that are willing to compromise? It is absolutely absurd, as I said in my other post, to expect all Republicans to hold exactly the same ideology. Party line voting really chaps my hide. They only reason they are toeing the line is to curry favor and funds within their own party in the future, not because they hold the exact same ideals as all other Republicans. Not sure what your point is "Hateful" Ben.

By the way, this is exactly what I'm talking about, Ben. You go all psycho with words like lying and hypocrisy regarding Democrats, but you fail to acknowledge that this would have been perfectly acceptable for Republicans in 2005. Both parties are corrupt. It's said that only 14 people had their heads on straight enough back then to make a difference. If you fail to read my other post, I'm not a damn Democrat, so it's not going to be easy for you to spout off your leftist-hating, unoriginal, blind-faith oriented vitriol as a response.

... That's because lying and hypocrisy are ideologically attached to socialism. The closer one gets to being a socialist - the further to the left one gets - the more of a liar and a hypcrite one becomes.

I hope each of the 4 currently serving "conservatives" from the Gang of 14 gets flushed and replaced with real conservatives.
