On What We See

In case you missed them, Big Hollywood had several articles over the weekend that will interest Christians reflecting on popular culture. The first was by Tedd Baehr who applies a biblical perspective to the Twilight series. Baehr offers insightful guidance to Christians who wonder what to make of the Twilight phenomenon. Read all the way to the end. His suggestions on how to be a wise consumer of media are priceless and desperately needed in our churches. The diverse reaction in the comments is interesting, too, for a conservative website.

The second and third articles you should read are a series by Alicia Colon. She writes about the virtues of “true erotica” in film. The series is a lesson in what really makes something sexy. Charisma, charm, and chemistry make for some of the best and hottest scenes in film (and life, I might add) and far outstrip the crassness of depicting the sex act. Read it with a Christian worldview and you’ll find Colon is arguing for something that values the human being against the degradation that has become the norm in Hollywood. It is a good reminder of why we should be careful what we watch.

As always, leave a comment to let me know what you think about these articles.
