Some things to say…

One would think there would be more to say this past week with all that has gone on. Truth be told, it all is a little flabbergasting. Here are some notes from around the web:

  • It only took one national incident to make people start yearning for W. BO’s handling of the attack on Ft. Hood left a lot to be desired. Some are saying his oft lauded coolness now looks like mere detachment.
  • Meanwhile, more is coming out about the shooter including the fact that Nidal Malik Hassan was trying to contact al Qaeda. The Weekly Standard wonders if this fact will be investigated.
  • Speaking of yearning for the past, BO chose not to head to Berlin to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the wall. One wonders that he has time to fail at bringing the Olympics home but not to celebrate an American victory over Communism won by a conservative and revered president. Check out the video of Reagan at the wall in the second link. Besides the great line challenging Gorby to tear down the wall Reagan said this: “I invite those who protest today to mark this fact: because we remained strong, the Soviets came back to the table.” The difference could not be more clear.
  • Christopher Hitchens also reflects on the causes of the event including the role of Communist leaders and the people.
  • Some good commentary on the election and what it means came last week from Charles Krauthammer and David Brooks. Kraut explains why the reports of the GOP’s demise were greatly exaggerated. He concludes the Dems misread their mandate. That seems to be epidemic among presidents. Remember when W boasted that he’d earned political capital and intended to spend it only to see his Social Security reforms flame out? Brooks tries to get into the minds of independents.
  • Marriage as an institution got a win last week in Maine, too. This is how issues are supposed to be decided, by the people at the ballot box. If you’re keeping score at home that’s 31 states in favor of traditional marriage and twice in California.
  • Finally, Fred Barnes put in his two cents about the path back to relevance for the GOP.

Check back for more later.
