A Prayer for the Fallen and Those Left Behind

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 (NIV)

We are praying in my house today for those killed or wounded at the shooting at Fort Hood yesterday and their families. Events like these always rattle us. The natural question is why. No doubt investigators are asking that question right now. Only faith in God who promises to “work for the good of those who love him” sustains us. Christianity Today has an interview with Steven Curtis Chapman about loss and the choice to trust God through it all. Chapman’s take on the Psalms put David’s sharp turns in the Psalms in a new light. Worth the read.

“Lord, times like this leave us without words. But your Word provides light in times of darkness. May your presence be palpable to those who are grieving today at Fort Hood. Send the Comforter and redeem even this terrible event.”
