A Halloween Joke

I knew there had to be a reasonable explanation! Growing up in Des Moines, Iowa when we kids would tour the neighborhood begging for candy we were also expected to tell a joke. Of course, I grew up thinking everyone did so. It was not until I moved out to the Great West that blank stares  greeted me behind the Batman and Princess masks. It turns out this is completely isolated to Des Moines. This article explains it all. It might even explain my sense of humor.
