Rush-ing to Judgement

The situation with Rush Limbaugh last week was deplorable. One would think conservatives like me would get used to being maligned but this was too much. Rush explains his side of the story with an op-ed in the WSJ. The false comments attributed to Rush were the worst part but most news outlets have retracted and some have almost apologized. Rush has a nice page keeping track of the links out there.

For my part I was going to boycott the NFL because of Roger Goodell’s comments. Then I decided it was lunacy to deprive myself of something I enjoy because of Goodell’s idiocy. One boycotter does not a difference make. Still, I want to do my part. So I drafted this letter which will be in the mail tomorrow to NFL headquarters.

There are some good links out there on this story including Big Hollywood and this one that notes some of the people able to meet Goodell’s “higher standard.”

Leave a comment to let me know what you think about Rush and the NFL.

Dear Commissioner Goodell,

I am a fan of both you and the National Football League. Your efforts to enforce the NFL code of conduct are admirable. That is why I was so appalled at your criticism of Rush Limbaugh and his involvement in the bid to buy the St. Louis Rams. Your comments are shameful. Any respect you had earned is now sacrificed to the gods of political correctness.
As I’m sure you know by now, the quotes widely attributed to Rush on major media outlets regarding race were lies. Rush denies saying them and many, including MSNBC and CNN, have issued apologies for their lousy fact checking.
The comments Rush did make about Donovan McNabb from 2003 were controversial but do you mean to suggest that no NFL owner-or potential owner-has ever said anything controversial? If this is the new standard you need to explain why people like Jennifer Lopez and Fergie who use racial slurs in their lyrics are allowed to join the exclusive club that is the NFL owners. I highly doubt using the “n-word” meets your “high standard.”
These facts can only lead to the conclusion that you are discriminating against Rush for some other reason. Is it possible you are rejecting Rush for his conservative views? The very idea is inconceivable in America where the doctrine of free speech reigns. The NFL once was a unifying institution in America that families rallied around every weekend but now the divisiveness of politics has entered the equation.
As a conservative, I can no longer watch the NFL with the same pleasure knowing people of similar ideology are not welcome. Rush would never boycott the NFL so neither will I. Still, I had to write because you need to know the offense you have committed against at least 20 million people, the size of Rush’s audience. You owe them all and Rush an apology.

Sincerely,

Eric D. Nevins Jr.

It seems to me that all the negative vibes this blowhard (Rush Hudson Limbaugh A.KA. Jeff Christie) has been spewing over these many years has come back to blow back on his face (A classic “Blow Back”). He always tries to give off the airs that he can have anything he wants but as we all witness those with more money and more influence tossed him aside like sack of potatoes and the ultimate insult was that it was done in public (money don’t buy you everything butterball).

Now of course he blames everyone else (Michael J. Fox, Perez Hilton, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Sonia Sotomayor, Hillary Clinton, Olympia Snowe, ESPN, NFL, the media, basically people of color, the handicapped, women and gays) when of course all you have to do is listen to his show and plainly hear his daily prejudices filled sermons. So NFL, I salute you decision, job well done. And to the whaling cry baby perched on his self made pedestal, quit your whining it was your own fault. He is reaping what he has sowed, KARMA, “palin and simple” like his followers. Don’t we all feel better?

Negative vibes? Who’s throwing negative vibes with words like “blowhard has been,” “butterball,” and my personal favorite “whaling cry baby?” I doubt that fat joke was planned.
